Title: TAIL LIGHT ISSUES HELP!!!!
Post by: kfoz on April 01, 2011, 02:55:05 pm
'74 GMC

I have no brake, rear turn signal, or back-up lights!!!!

What could be wrong?

I do however have front running lights and front turn signals!

Could it be the turn signal switch in the column and I assume the brake light switch??

All bulbs are good!!!!

Check your wires from the bulkhead connector back to the taillights.

This happened to me, my light were all working, then one day no rear lights at all, and when they worked they did real funny things, checked power at the plug, checked bulbs, did everything I could think of.  Dad said ground strap, I said I just replaced it 3 months earlier.  Ended up being the ground strap, somehow the new ground strap wasn't making good enough contact.(even after cleaning contact points on frame and bed)  "check to make sure it is grounded right, I know I should listen to my elders more often.   ;D

If it isnt the ground, there is a plug that is close to the fire wall on the steering collumn under the dash. Its the turn signal switch plug. Make sure it is properly connected. My buddies trucks liklght were acting weird and that was the problem. He had running lights, no brake lights, only the right turn signal. With the parking lights off, he had just the driver signal, no brake. Park lights on he had justvthe passenger brake, no signals. It was WEIRD. It was that turn signal plug. But since your reverse lights dont work either, i'd say its the ground.
