Title: Door lock problem
Post by: zieg85 on April 07, 2011, 03:59:36 pm
Well just my luck...  Got my red 1985 C10 running great, changed a tie rod end, stops good, every light works.  I let my son take it to work and I get a call that he locked the drivers door and it won't open up with the knob or key.  Any ideas how to get it open without carving into the perfect door panel?

most likely will have to remove the panel. It sounds like a clip came off and a rod came out.

I second beastie, though if it wont open, you could remove the seat and remove just the door jam side and see if you can see if the rod fell off or broke.

Lucked out... My son tried it one more time and it opened so I told him to leave it unlocked and I will take the door pad off and see what is happening.  I dreaded taking the seat out as it was out of a Suburban and the seatback doesn't fold forward....

Glad to hear, that would have been a pain with that seat.

My 1 ton does that every so often. I just give it a side fist bomp right below the lock cylinder then it works fine for a week or two!

Was it an issue of the key not turning?  If so, push the handle button and retry.  If that is the case, the latch needs to be cleaned and lubed and checked for wear.

Key would not turn to unlock or the button from inside would come up.  The door will not be locked until I clean it all up.  It worked after a while after the truck was driven and I am sure was jarred loose over these local potholes

If it does it again.  press the button on the outside door handle and then try the lock.  This is a typical problem for these.  It will generally release if you do this.
