I have a 1985 with AC and am having a time with the trim piece located on the passenger side that holds the air vents. It has plastic mounting pegs that feed through the dash and match up with the air vents behind the dash pad. The problem is the metal caps provided with the trim piece !! The pegs on the back of the trim piece will break ( 1 so far ) trying to go through the metal caps to line up. Just hoping someone has a trick to getting this piece back on before I attempt it again and end up breaking anything else. I can post some pics if my description is too vague.

When I replaced the dash the metal pieces I had were like "self threading nuts" and I screwed them on to hold the trim piece on. Can you not get it on far enough to look good?

Is the peg to big for the nut?

They have thread cutting nuts on them. Lefty loosey righty tighty

Thanks all for the quick responses. Never used anything like these before and now it makes complete sense. Going to take care of it sometime this week.
