Ive got the i6 250 in my 78 C10 and I've noticed a small lifter tick, at all times, not just idle. Its a daily driver and I don't have time to replace the valves or lifters this week, I was just wondering if anyone had used Marvel Mystery Oil or any other additives with success as a temporary fix for a lifter tick in the past. Its still only about a 3 week old truck for me, so I have plans in the future, just not right now, so it would really be a temporary fix. Any suggestions as far as additives or adjustments? The oil pressure is at a good level. Thanks!

i have used marvels and trans fluid with great success, I usually use about half a quart for a couple hundred miles. make sure you are using a filting with an anti-drainback valve too.

If you have a set of old valve cover, you can cut a the top of it out and put it on your engine, start it up and you can adjust the valves with the truck running through the hole in the valve cover without getting oil everywhere.

my 305 had a really bad tick going on when i bought it. I bought it thinking a valve job would soon follow. Adjusted the valves and it purrs like a kitten now ;D

I have had good luck with Moreys quieting down small ticks etc.

I've tried a few things in the past. I have had good luck with Marvel, Rislone and Seafoam. It all depends on what is around. I use more marvel than anything as I always have it around form machining and things like that. The old school guys say add a little ATF. I haven't tried this though.

I have had ATF work for a sticky valve several times, never used it for a ticky lifter.

I can see the ATF working on the lifter if there is junk in it that is keeping it from pumping up properly. I dunno this issue can also work as a springboard to a motor swap. My built 351 Cleveland in my Mach 1 started as a leaky valve cover project. I'm just saying :)
