Title: rear stepside fenders?
Post by: klaussk on April 25, 2011, 09:35:24 pm
I have an 85 K0 Stepside. The fenders on the bed are rough. I am a sheet metal worker and can repair both. But it will take dozens of hours of work. I am very straped for cash and the only place i can find fenders at is  . Anyone know another place.

I just went through this with my truck. Exact same as yours. I will tell you this both of the aftermarket ones i bought where JUNK. Nothing lined up. One hole would be off a tad one way the next hole was off a tad the other way. Drove me nuts to try to get it all together. If I was to do it over i would have just repaired what i had. hope that info helps and good luck

I thonk my only choice is to repair them. I am going to check the junk yard soon. If I get lucky I might be able to justwake 2 fenders, cut em up and make one good one.

Man I am spoiled, I have access to several pick-n-pulls, junk yards and recycling yards.  In fact just a couple of days ago I was cruising through one and found a gm A833 2wd transmission with the stock hurst shifter on a 79.  I am almost tempted to go back and buy it because it is the only one I have found.

I would buy that trans in a minute if I ever saw one up here.  Stupid salt eats these trucks for breakfast so finding anything in the junkyards more than 20 years old is difficult, but an A833 I would love one of those if I ever had a 6.2 diesel.  You should grab it, better than it going to the scrapper once the yard is sick of looking at it.

The A833 is a stout trans, and prolly one of the few 4 speeds I'd want to throw in the 74, too bad I'm tapped out, I'd snap that up in a heartbeat too.

If you have the skills, fix the ones you have, those dozens of hours are better spent keeping original sheetmetal alive, and its easier on the wallet.
