Do the oak bedfloors weigh more or less than the steel floor in a longbed fleetside? My dad says the oak weighs less, but I think the steel would be lighter. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? Thanks.

I just put the oak in my step side this weekend and all I can tell the weight of the oak was next to nothing. My guess the steel would be way more. I would even say maybe 4 to 5 time heavier.

X2 on the wood being lighter.

at the very least, the weight difference wouldnt be anything that would make a difference. plus, you want a little more weight in the back for traction purposes.

I planned on putting the steel floor in instead of the wood, I just wanted to know if it was any lighter.

If you want light and rot resistant, Maybe try some cedar. Never seen it done, but it's a nice LIGHT wood.
I got a house made out of cedar and I can say I can carry pretty large beams of the stuff by myself. And with no protection it's last 30+ years so far with no rot whatever

That is a very good question, I have both a wood bed and a steel bed. The wood bed seems to have more support for the wood slates, and in between each plank of wood there is a sheep metal runner. The steel bed has less long supports but has them width wise.
I have lifted both beds off the trucks, the wood is in a step side, and the steel is in a fleetside. I can only say for a fact that the whole fleet side bed weighs more than the whole step side bed.
