Title: Bad Day...
Post by: slammed79 on April 29, 2011, 01:38:09 am
So while things have been looking a little better lately, I got a call from one of my roomates today while I was out working saying that the manager of my apartment complex was asking for the rent money or the keys to the apartment. I called the manager back directly and told him what was going on and that if he was going to evict us then file the paperwork and do so, otherwise I'd have his money when I get paid (This coming Tuesday, I'd have two months) He told me that he needed it by 6:00 pm today or he'd have to file the eviction papers.

This is the April rent I'm talking about incidently.

One of my roomates lost his job last month and between child support and trying to survive he hasn't had the rent.

So I get home today from work and it looked like my apartment had been robbed. Both my roommates cleared out while I was at work. I am now fully ready to go back to California, and start again (not for the first time mind you.) This was a bit shocking because I thought these guys were more like brothers than friends.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm seriously agitated that this is hitting my credit report and not the rest of them ( I was the only one on the lease as when I got the place I lived alone)

That sucks!   I hope it gets better for ya.  YEah you can't really trust people not to screw you over in those kinds of situations.  And it's extra disheartening when you thought they were real friends.

I'm sure things will get better for you.  I've been wanting a fresh start myself...just sucks that your credit report has to follow you.  Good luck bro.

Unfortunately, too true.   Sometimes you can't even trust yourself >:(

Try talking to the manager again.  Explain the situation (your so-called friends leaving you in a lurch), offer to catch up on your share of the rent if you agree to leave the apartment ASAP, clean and in good repair, in exchange for NOT reporting you to the credit bureau.  It can't hurt to ask.  Good luck.

Thanks guys! Its gotten a lil better. I'm mostly packed up now and gonna throw my stuff in storage tomorrow. Then its a bit of couch hopping while I ride out the death throws of the company, then back to Redding area.

Everytime that anything similar has happened to me, it has led me in a new and better direction. It sucks that you got left holding the bag, but whenever one door closes, another opens. The best lessons are the hardest ones to learn. Good luck to you.

Thought I'd update on this. I went and got a new place closer to work for a lot less money than I was paying for the other place, plus no room-mates (even better!)

And AZ REO Services picked up again, so we didn't tank! I'm putting California on the 6 Month plan, as that was all the lease I signed.

Unless you got a good job lined up in California, I might just make that 2 - 3 yr hold.  ::)
