I have an 87 Chevy 305 TBI 1/2 ton 4wd. I had a leaking head gasket. Pulled the heads ,had them inspected and surfaced. During the repair I replaced rocker arms ,pushrods, distributer, wires, plugs. After all this my truck would just not start at times . No pattern to it at all. I could turn the key , it would crank but not start. Pour fuel into the TBI and it would start. Fuel is coming from the pump. I pulled the fuel line off the TBI and had plenty. Replaced the fuel pressure reg. ECS, TPS,Ignit Mod. Map sensor, EGR, O2 sens. fuel pump ( that sucked) . I am not getting any fuel out of the injectors when i crank the engine. Fuses are good. No one around rents/loans the fuel pressure guage and its $45 to buy. Nobody has a noid light either , would have to order. Can I check the injectors with just a test light? I am not very electrical /automotive savvy but I am learning through expereince. Before all this I was getting 17 mpg now when she runs I am at 12mpg. Any help would be appreciated.

OK since you don't have a scan tool, unplug the TPS and see if it starts.

Ok I left about an hour ago and decided to try it just for fun. It started . I shut it off and when I came back it would not start again. I unhooked the throttle position sensor and it started up.
-
With it running I hooked the TPS back up and the engine idled down slightly. I unplugged it again and it idled up.

I got ahold of a noid light and plugged it in while it was running. I checked both injectors and they are both flashing very fast and at the same rate.

I have been looking at this thread http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=17537.15 and wondered where I can find charts A-1 A-2 A-6?
-
So are you saying the no start problem goes away with the tps unplugged?
-
Yes. When I unplugged the TPS it started. But I plugged it back in and waited about 30 minutes and it started fine. It may start the next 3 times I turn the key but then wont start for days.
-
Went to work today for 12 hours and when I came home I tried to start it - No Go. Unplugged the TPS still wouldn't start.

Where are you with this? Did you get it resolved?
-
Yeah finally figured it out. I disconnected all the hot and ground wires in the engine compartment. Payed close attentions to the ones that were disconnected when I replaced the head gaskets. They all seemed tight but I cleaned the connections really good then reconnected them and I haven't had a problem since.

Gas mileage is still down but atleast it starts when I want it to. I am picking up a code 44 so I am going to try and replace the O2 sensor. The connections to the computer appear good.
