Title: Front grille swap 80 to 78?
Post by: Cheyenne on May 10, 2011, 03:11:03 pm
I know the grilles are pretty much similar but I'm trying to recreate a 78 out of my 80. Lucky for me it's not a 81 as everyone knows there a lot diffrence with those. If I got a 78 front grille lights etc would it bolt right on.. Anyone ever done this thanks..

I'm learning here beastie so your saying that a 78 grille bolt right on a 80.. What are the subtle differences in a 78 grille and 80 grille.. I know the one website say the changes each year but the grille in particular

Cosmetically it is different, but the mounts should be the same. Differences, as far as looks and design, im not sure. I dont have a pic of each one.

Does your 80 have square headlights? If so you need to remove the bracket that the headlight bucket mounts to. As far as the lower trim on the filler when you go to the narrower 78 trim you will have hole left uncovered in the filler. You will need to swap out the filler panel too, or weld up those holes. The headlight doors are the same they just have the larger chrome that covers the marker / directional light.
