Title: Replacing Stock Radio
Post by: Chevynut on January 19, 2006, 06:56:00 am
Would like y'alls advice please - replacing stock radio (it no longer works >: ) with something basic.  And I'll probably put a couple of speakers in the corners behind seat so I ain't got to jack with those in dash raskels!

Thanks for the help :)

Today's replacement stereos simply won't fit in your dash without modifications (ie: cutting the metal in your dash to make it completely rectangular).

There are a few companies that make stereos that will fit, but good luck finding any and you'll pay extra.

I simply took a metal grinder wheel and ripped the hole out where the knobs used to go through on the stock equipment.  I think it looks pretty good w/ the modern stereo.  Of course it channels through a 1,000 watt amp under my seat before leading to my 12 inch woofers and tweeters.  BTW, i love my remote control for it too!!!

This is (as far as I know) you only bet for a decent one that fits the shaft design.

I agree. They also have replacements so you do not have to cut up your dash for the '67-'72 trucks. I hear they are good radios. These work well in the -73-'87. If my dash was not already cut up and have a newer stereo in it this is the way I would go. But at least the PO did a good job and did not butcher the dash.
