Title: axle shafts

my friend broke his drivers front axle shaft at the u joint type connector saturday.   i understood a guy on youtube saying gm axles have 28 splines....spicers have 32 or something like that.

we removed his broken axle and counted.....both of us 3 times each. it has 29.
we removed one from an old spare front axle....both counted 3 times each. it has 31.

can someone give me the true info?
how many types are there? (axle shafts)
how many splines each?

It will be 28 or 30... Probably a 28.  Time to put the beer down  ;)

30 splines are far and few between compared to 28s.
