i finally figured out what 454 was in my 84 c10! its an LF-8 250hp motor that was made in 76-80! The only performance parts i have on it now are exhaust, headers,k&n,and an edelbrock intake and 600 carb! what should i do next? i really want 400hp without changing the bottom end, what a safe number without changing the bottom end? it is my weekend driver!!

What you want is a good balance of Torque and HP.
Torque gets you going off the line, HP takes over after that.

talk to some cam companys and get a cam picked out that will get you close.

Heads & a cam.

i was thinkin of just having a cam installed! i have no idea of any1 around here who can do it though so im sure ill have to go out of town! would having a set of aluminum edelbrock heads be better than a cam? if i was to pick on of the two which would it be? what if i had my stock heads worked??? ive seen top end kits for sale but im thinkin it may be too much hp and torq for my stock bottom end!

Cam swaps are pretty easy you should be able to do it yourself in about a day. Head will help a lot too but to get the full benifit a cam will help.
-
The heads that you've got were designed for good low rpm torque for pulling a large load but are a major road block for developing high HP numbers.

Suppose if I bought a top end kit from edelbrock and installed it,will my bottom end support that kind of power?
