hey i would like to see everybodys aftermarket stereo setup like their cd players and speakers, subs and amps all the good stuff!
-
Agreed, Let's see some pix!
These trucks were not easy to make a nice system for. I've found that cutting speakers into the lower doors works well, tweeters in the dash, amp under the seat, speaker boxes behind the seat and you have an ok system but this time I'm gonna try those kick panel speakers, full range speakers in the dash and maybe custom build speakers behind the seats.
-
pics of systems are hard to take due to minal system
heck i have thought about building a box for a pair of 8 and a pair of 6x9s and paintin it up with flames or what not but who ever gonna see it
-
I'd like to see some pics myself. I'm at a point where I have a head unit installed, bought a 5 channel amp. Looking to see what I can do. I am going with a custom box w/ 2 10's in back. I just don't know what I want to do with the front.
Maybe some kick panels I really don't want to cut the doors, but that is an option, and try to do something to replace the 4x10's in the back. Hopefully I can make some kind of bracket to adapt some 6.5 2 ways or something.
-
i have a box with 2 10"s in the back...but it sucks. and once i get buckes i will be fiberglassing a center console to hold them. the amp is under the seat. in front i have 5.25" speakers in the kick panels sold on this site. i will also have 3" in the rear speaker holes. then there will be a dvd monitor fiberglassed into the dash. for the deck, i am gonna be moving some things around since i don't need any of the a/c controls, not sure how that will come out, but it'll have the cd and dvd head units on it
-
My head unit:

My 4 8" subs in sealed box:

Got my amp mounted under the seat. Everything is not complete. Getting my component mids and highs next weekend. I got my kick panels last week. Just waiting to get the speakers, and put my alarm in next weekend, and it will be finished...
The sub box fits good, and my seat goes all the way back.
-
Nice Setup Was wondering what amp are you running?, what model are the puch 8 's? what are the dimensions of the box if you don't mind sharing that info ?and how is the sound?
Thanks
-
I have a soundstream xta600.5 running the subs right now.
I have kick panels, and punch 5.25 components I am putting in this weekend. I also have punch 3.5 in the dash with some bass blockers hooked to the head unit.
It sounds pretty good. When I get the mids and highs in, I'll post some pics of them also.
It should sound even better.
The subs are punch 8" series 1.
I went with the budget amp and subs. I got 2 sets of the punch 5.25 components for $100 brand new. They are a couple of years old, but still new in box.
The dim. on box are....
41"wx14"hx6.5"d(bottom)x3.5"d(top)
The subs sound good, not too bassy, they could use some more power, I have the 5th channel bridged into 2 ohms@240 watts running them.
After I get the kick panels in, I'm making some brackets to mount the other set of mids/highs in the back, I'll post some pics.
-
Thanks For The info. Been looking to upgrade my 79 and always wondered if 4 subs would fit. Sounds like you are well on your way to a sweet system.
-
OK here goes my attempt to post this. (failed several times)
Please note this vehicle is under construction and has a long way to go.
Head unit is a Alpine 9856

4ch. amp is a Alpine MRPF250

Mono Sub amp is a Alpine MRPM450

Door speakers are Alpine type R componets with seperate tweeters in door pods

Subwoofer is a Alpine type R 12" DVC at 2 ohms in a center consol

Here are my kick panels w/ Rockford components:

I need to find some longer screws...
but they sound really good.
-
wow, great stuff thanks for the info!!
-
Where did you find those Kick Panels? They look awesome. I also like the way you did your door panels and what I could see your carpet. Do you have more interior pics? Don't forget to include some of pics of the outside.

who were you referring to?
let me know, I can post some more pics if you want.
I got my kick panels from cardomain.com for like $140, no speakers..
-
and the door panels are bone stock...just in REALLY good shape.
-
That thing looks great! Awesome truck dude! Nice clean installations, and the interior obviously literally ROCKS!

This was the first system I whipped up a couple years ago. It's all being redone. I have leather buckets in now too with a custom console to go in, new kick panels, new amp rack probably going in the bed, etc. It was built for SQ competiton.

A sub box for a single 8 on my tranny tunnel. Looks bigger than it was in that photo. You'd be suprised at how well it sounded.

My deck. The texture coating I put on the custom ABS trim plate didn't match the grain on the plastic dash as well as I'd hoped, but that's getting redone anyway

Looks awesome! I am considering doing something cool with the stereo in my GMC - open to suggestions
-
What kind of seating to you have? Buckets demands a cool full-length console wtih some curves in it. Or be brave and do a cut-through so your sub box and your amps are in the bed, but the subs fire thru into the cab.
-
Here's a few quick pics of my cheap-o setup. I had this stuff laying around for years now waiting till my truck restoration was nearing completion. I will get some photos of the CD player and the tweets in the dash later too.
This truck's an off road built toy, so it has a rubber floor mat in there and I guess it would be pointless putting really nice stuff in there when you plan to remove mud later with a garden hose!
The cool thing is the connections are all sealed up watertight on anything on the floor or remotely near where I will clean the floor out.

(both of the above powered by head unit)
2 Pioneer 200 watt 6x9's

I did the cut thru on an 84 swb I had..had 2 cerwin-vega 15"s and 2 alpine 10"s in the bed, pointing right into the seat..1600 watts of Precision Powers Amps,Epicenter,etc....the bed was speaker enclosure from front to just behind the rear wheels..had all MB Quarts (sp?) mids and tweets.. it was all high end stuff at the time, now I'm showing my age..this was in about 1992 or so .. it made 133db in it's best tune up ;D

From Walmart? How does it sound?
-
i have that same system....i havent used the 6x9's but the 6.5's dont sound too bad....they dont have bass though
-
Are you guys using a mounting kit from Crutchfield or something to get it to sit there so nice? My truck is in dire need of a new deck and speakers.
-
I thought the system sounded good, especially for $94. Id buy it again. I've since then upgraded everything since my rebuild, but my buddy still has that same set in his truck. I gave him mine so he could replace anything that breaks without a big search.

no kit, just plan carefully and cut the hole slowly. I cut mine out underiszed a bit with a jigsaw and then hand filed it out to fit properly. A dremel would probably cut the work down.
-
when i did mine i didnt take as much time as i shouldve so it didnt come out perfect but it came out alright...all i used was a dremel to cut the plastic and medal on the dash
-
Here is what I throw together this truck is just a parts truck I am teaching my son to drive in.
(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff310/frogman1968/DSCF2121.jpg) Not sure but I think I will do this again and close in the radio spot just have to figure out what to do with the trim piece so it will look finished
(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff310/frogman1968/DSCF2122.jpg) Just zip tied them in not too much bounce in em :)
(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff310/frogman1968/DSCF2123.jpg) cut some scrap lumber to make "boxes" for the 6X9 not sure if I will make it out of metal next time.
I am tone deaf so I can not tell you if it sounds good (sounds great to me but I am told that I dont what sounds good is lol) that speaker wire is not for the speakers just what I used to replace the back window
-
i dont know about you guys but i dont like how it looks when the stereo is in the middle of the dash like that
-

I actual like it there since then I dont have to mess with the radio when driving if I have a passenger.
-
Best placement for a radio I ever saw was in some old cadillac. the radio was to the left of the steering column. I'd love that, then they and can't get to the radio, especially the GF. :D
