Title: Timing
Post by: 87 K20 on May 21, 2011, 07:07:44 am
Hey does anyone have any advice on where to set timing on an 87 350 with fuel injection?  The emission control label is gone.  Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks,

Mike

My 91 5.7, w/ California emissions, said 0 degrees.   However, I like to run it around 6 BTDC

According to my Haynes manual, the 1987 350 w/ EFI (no distinction made between California and all the rest) is supposed to be set at 0 (zero) degrees Before Top Dead Center, with the engine at an idle.

0 degrees and remember to unplug the electronic advance.

is the electronic advance the only thing that needs to be unplugged?  As said before this is fuel injection and the emissions label is MIA.

that's all.  look at the link I posted--gives location of spark control tan wire by brake booster.  Zero degrees is correct, but, you may be like me and prefer a slight advance, as long as your engine doesn't knock. I think it has more giddyup slightly advanced.
