Title: Bumpers
Post by: notallthere on May 22, 2011, 09:31:55 am
I am looking for pictures or opinions for bumpers on the truck.  Currently, I have bumpers from a 73 to 80 Suburban on it.  I was wondering if anyone has seen newer 85 - 90 suburban bumpers on a pre 80 GMC truck.  I did find a very affordable pair (okay freakin cheap) for it and before I pick them up I want to see if anyone else has done it.

The rear bumper works/looks correct since the bedsides are all the same shape, however I think the front one ends up real tight to the fenders...seems the '81-up fenders angle inward slightly in front of the wheel opening & the pre does not. Thus, I believe the newer bumper is slightly narrower or the fact that it comes back farther it becomes a problem.
You would need to modify the brackets or cut your frame off & use '81-up frame brackets...the spacing or set-out is different.
If someone has better/more knowledge on this...I will stand corrected, just going by the memory of a friends truck a bunch of years ago. He found a nice chrome bumper, but didn't notice it was the wrong year (he wasn't really a "truck guy"). It did go on with some fooling around, but I seem to remember very little gap on the sides.
Here's my rear bumper for reference. Lorne

I figured the rear would be okay for it.  The front one is the one that I am unsure of and wanted to see it before.  I may just go over to my buddies house and mock it up first to see if I like it.  Thanks
