Title: Dash warning lights?
Post by: 1978 K20 on May 26, 2011, 01:35:17 am
I have a 1978 K20-

Should ALL the warning lights on the dash light up (choke, 4x4, brake, and belt) light up when I turn the ignition on? Right now only the belt light lights up. A while back the brake light came on when my brakes went out, but it never went on before or since. The 4x4 light has NEVER been on...

Do I start with bulbs?

The seat belt light lights up for a few seconds when the ignition is turned. The brake light will come on if there is a problem with the brakes or if the parking brake is depressed. And the 4x4 light should come on when switched into 4 wheel drive. If it doesnt, make sure the 4x4 light plug is connected to the transfer case. If it is, try jumping the 2 wires on the.plug and see if the light comes on. If the light comes on while jumping the wires, the sending unit is bad. If it still doesnt light up, check the bulb. And you may or may not have a gen light, but that has to do with the alternator.
