Title: fuel issue
Post by: cwilson jr on June 04, 2011, 06:24:43 pm
my 85 k10 was running beautifully until the other day when it stranded me.  i dont seem to be getting any fuel.  im thinking fuel pump.  now ive replaced in-tank electric pumps before, but dont these trucks have mechanical pumps? and not in-tank?  what are the first things i can test and where is the fuel pump located.

fuel pump should be located on the front of motor on the passenger side.

Do you have an inline fuel filter? You can usually test the pump by pulling off the line going into the carburetor, putting into a container that's able to hold gas, crank the motor. If the container fills up fairly quickly, then your pump is ok. If it doesn't, it could be the pump or it could be something before the pump is bad, ie the sock, there's some rubber rotting that's letting the pump suck air.

Well its not fuel.  Its pouring out.  Must be spark.  What are the next things I can look into and test?

test the spark first. pull a plug and ground it out then turn over the engine see if you see a spark. a friend will help
