I got a pair of pups from the local animal shelter and picked them up on tuesday all netuered and cleaned and healty. They're both really smart and not a mean bone in them. We gave them my grandad and his brothers old nicknames, so they're BUD and SHORTY. Buds the rotty lookin dog and Shortys the Beagle lookin one. I put em on hold thursday, spent sunday and monday putting up about 300ft of fence (my hands are DEAD) and picked em up on Tuesday. They have good manners on their own but cut up like puppies when you put em together. They aren't house trained yet but they are crate trained and will not go in the cages.
Buds about 30lbs so far and shortys about 23lbs. The guess is they are about 5 months old.
They've been a blast so far, I can't wait to turn em loose in the back when they get all healed up from their surgeries!

Cool, dogs are the best!

Looking dogs! One of our pits we have we got from our local spca and she is the sweetest dog I'm glad we rescued her. Our other one I got from my cousin when his dogs had their second litter. Our rescure is a red female named Kami and our male is a blue/white with some fawn brendle his name is Freddie lol. I couldn't ask for better companions and they love my 3yr old daughter and she feels the same for them!
-
congrats on the latest addition to your family.

Thanks guys! They're a lot of fun! I haven't had a dog in about 16 years and have missed it sorely.
I took em out yesterday for a ride around the property in the truck. They did good. I'm gonna have them in their cages on the road, (loose dogs in beds make me very nervous) but it's ok around the yard when they're hooked on the stake pocket.
Buds scared of heights... he was ok being lifted into the truck, but it was a job getting him out, he wouldnt cross the line onto the open tailgate for nothing....
Also I think this is the dirtiest the trucks been since I painted it...lol

The more and more I have them, the more and more I get PO'd somebody could dump them off somewhere, though if they hadn't I wouldn't have them myself.

Nice dogs. I also get nervous about having dogs loose in the back of the truck, i had a very scary experience, i have two Neapolitan mastiff's (big dogs), one day i was going to the beach and decided to take them with me, well one of them saw a cat and jumped out of the MOVING truck to chase him, because i had the dogs on the back i was driving really slow, i heard the dog cry a little bit from the jump, my K20 has a 4 in lift and 33 tires on it so it is a considerable height to jump from for a 100+ pound dog and because of that i never ever thought that he will even think about jumping off the truck, so after the jump he didn't keep chasing the cat i guess it hurt or got scared from the jump and i grabbed him, good thing that nothing really happend to the dog i had him checked and everything was OK, but after that i always tie them from the middle, i put a chain across thru the pockets.
-
awesome dogs man. glad they got a new loving home. and yea, having dogs in the back always have me nervous. i know they love it, but so many risks. and i hate when i see people tie them up and dont leave any slack, so if by chance they jump over the side ect, they can hang themselves.
-
there shouldnt be slack to allow the dogs to jump in the first place...
-
in a backwards way , thats what i was trying to get at . lol i got all jumbled. thanks for the correction beastie.
-
They now give be another reason to buy that 60/40 seat with the fold down console in the center... ;)
They got all healed up and we gave them a bath today. God did they need it. the stuff in the tub looked like mine does after plowing dusty ground all day.
They're so shiny now!
-
so how did they like there first bath haha ?
-
I basically did the same thing when we got Buster we fenced in 3/4 acre just so he could run. He was a rescued dog as well and I picked him up at the SPCA. I never knew a pitbull could be such a fun loving goofy dog but I'm glad i got him.
-
Pitbulls are EXCELLENT people dogs dispite what the media makes everyone think. Both of my pits and my cousins 4 apbt's are the most fun dogs I've ever been around.

Its all on how they are raised. Look at the quality of a person who shows up in the news from an attack...generally...

vick ::)
-
Exactly! I actualy rock a decal of a pit peeing on the word vick on the back glass of my truck! :p
-
but the prez said its great to give a convicted felon a second chance. what about the all the dogs do they get another chance?
-
The ones they saved are rehab dogs now that visit elderly people and sick children. Some been adopted out.
-
yeah but the ones who they couldn’t save. i think they should use him in dog training without the gear
-
I do agree! The place he was doing all this at his home is about 2 miles from my grandmothers house in smithfield va we pass it whenever we go to visit. He had a few black building in the woods behind the house most likely where all the horrible things went on. Its sat empty since he was caught. No one wants it and I don't blame them. A church is directly across the street from the house also.
-
I say tear it down and make Vic watch and pay for it all. Then donate it to the church you was saying about screamin
-
so how did they like there first bath haha ?
They did good. they weren't real sure about it at first but then they got to tolerating it really well. They of course loved being dried with the towels. lol
for the pitbulls, they are tough dogs but they'll be big ol babies if you treat them right. Pits are just dogs, like every other breed, if you dont make em mean, they wont be. of coarse there are exceptions in every breed group. one of my friends has a big ol pit named Debo, and he tough with squirrels, but thats about it.... ;D I still wouldnt wanna sneak into his house at night though ;)
-
yeah i have an issue with mine killing birds lol. i had to give both of them baths after i picke them up from the place i borded them while we were at the beach and they too love the towel drying. dogs are fun to have around and help you not feel so lonely kinda wild how well they they help with that.

went to the vet today for buds follow up shots. the vet says he's 4 months old going by his teeth. Shorty goes tomorrow. bud had gained 9.5lbs since i got him, and they said he's about the right weight now. buds already 40lbs.
-
Sounds like they are doing well.
