I have an '87 v10 with 350 tbi and the factory vaccum boost master cylinder brakes. In wanting to get a little better braking power and clean up the engine bay i'm looking into geting a hydra boost to replace the oe vaccum boost. The hydra boost was offered on the 6.2l diesels in '87 and from the looks of it it will just bolt in to place plus routing some hydro hoses from the power steering. Anyone done this?

haven't done a conversion but I do have an 87 v3500 ( one ton) and I gotta say the brakes in the truck are EXCELLENT. Also my step dad's 97 Astro van has a hydroboost Unit in it as well and those too are excellent. I would go for the swap in a second.

That is my theory and i've heard that the hydra boost can make double the power and in a 3-ton plus 4x4 stopping is as important as going especially with some of the people on the road now a days. If you have tha ability could you maybe snap some pics of the stock set up and send it to my email.. jamie.rook@yahoo.com. I want to get an idea of how it will fit because the conversion is rather cheap even with new parts as opposed to rebuilt.

Hydroboost is great, but I am not seeing how running extra lines from the power steering pump to the booster would clean up under the hood?

I see your point but the hoses but I realy just want to get rid of that huge vacuum booster.
