Title: What is this picture?
Post by: Grover 1 on June 21, 2011, 10:53:07 pm
This is the carb on my '86 Silverado.  Not a great picture, I know, but can anyone tell what the electrical connections are on the top left of the picture?  Are they necessary and is there a way to remove them?  My truck is no longer under smog laws so I'd like to take off what I can before I get a lot of leaking vacuum lines and such.

You have an electronic q-jet. I don't know much about them but I think that basically what you have there is a solenoid for fuel mixture. I'm guessing you would need it hooked up and working properly or it will run full rich.

You will have to change carbs to get rid of those connections.

I am in the process of desmogging my 86.  I found a guy on ebay that does q-jets and has a few thousand positive feedbacks.  I'll probably get one from him.  Need to bypass my little box under the dash as well.  pretty much everything else is done, can't wait to drive it!!
