Title: truck pulling to the left
Post by: bigchevyc30 on June 25, 2011, 10:57:34 am
ok well at first i thought the truck pulled to the left due to my caliper was locked up but i just replaced as it was under warrenty and and got my brake pads replaced under warrenty due to the caliper failing good thing for lifetime warrenties lol. but since i replaced the caliper ive also replaced the rear brake sheoes and wheel cylinders. when i took it apart i went ahead and got new springs and the star adjuster and the racheting mechanism to adjust the brakes. im wondering what could be causing my truck to do this would i need a front end alignment. please reply back as im still learning about my truck

I assume because you thought it was a stuck caliper that it pulls to the left when braking.  If so, the first thing I would always look at it would be the flexible brake hoses.  If it simply drifts to the left and you notice the steering wheel doesn't aim true center anymore then a front end alignment should take care of your issue.

I had a'67 Camaro that dove to the right every time I braked until I replaced the flexible brake lines (went ahead and replaced the stainless steel lines and everything else at the same time as it was over 30 years old).

well its not when i brake its the whole time i figured it was from the brake caliper being locked up putting resistance on the left side hence it pulling left the whole time the truck still does it going down the road not when i brake

They got about an inch and a half of shims in mine on each side to get it to drive straight.  ;D

It could be a multitude of things. Start with the easy/cheap ones & work from there. Swap the tires Right for Left & test drive. As was mentioned, the rubber hoses can do what you are describing & can be almost as common as the caliper sticking. If you haven't had an alignment done anytime recent...that would be up there in things to do. Good Luck! Lorne

well ive had the truck now for a year and ive only had the tires replaced 6 months ago. just did the brakes 2 weeks ago and had put on a new rotor 2 weeks ago also. thats all thats been done for suspension and braking on my truck so im thinking more of front end alignment

Jack it up and see if the wheels turn just as easy on both sides. Did you over tighten the wheel bearings?

tire pressure, odd wear can cause it too

my driverside brakes are not locked up but they dont want to release the pressure its left a white mark on the outside of the new pads im guessing from heat and now i noticed i have a bunch of cracks in the rotor they are small but idk if it can be turned or not. heres whats happend to the new caliper i put on 2 weeks ago and my new rotor hasnt even changed a bit would this be from heat

If the brake hose needs replaced you should be able to tell by cracking open the bleeder.  If it releases the caliper than the hose needs replaced.

Could also need bleeding?

Sorry, just re-read the post. I would go for the collapsed rubber hose. When you push the brake pedal it pushed the fluid through but where it's collapsed it can't get back under normal pressure.
