Title: Came home with a truck load.
Post by: thirsty on June 30, 2011, 10:30:12 pm
My wife bought me this fleetside bed today for our anniversary.

(pic is from the craigslist add)

It was about 100 miles from home so I went to the local parts store and picked up some cheap ratchet straps and stuffed it into the bed of my mazda b3000. I got some funny looks on the way home with it standing on it's headboard and being about the same size as the mazda!

Yeah...I'm glad my 86 is a shortbox!
It's still in the mazda, I should get a picture of it.

So about the bed. I went to look at one while I was in that area just so I could see it other than craigslist pictures and the seller wasn't telling me the truth or his idea of not finding one in better condition was different than mine. It was absolute garbage underneath. If I had nothing I wouldn't have put his bed on my truck. I was pretty bummed. I have two stepsides on craigslist and was looking to trade with him. The wife called another add talked to the guy made a deal and talked me into going to see that one. He had damaged the rear posts trying to take off the hardware for the gate to save for himself. I already new about some rust on the rear corners so I wasn't very interested. When I saw the actual condition of this one it was just the opposite. This bed was perfect underneath and the rust was not as bad as he made it seem in the add. I almost fell over when he said "I'll give you the gate and hardware, the lights, a new 16 gallon tank with new gm brackets and straps...and I told your wife $150" He even got some help to load it into my truck.

Here it is back at the garage in my big bad B3000. I should have sold advertising on it for the ride home.

The jeep is junk. Bad frame doesn't run and the owner can't afford to have it fixed. Kind of a sore subject with me, I've had it at the garage for almost a year. The 71 maverick on the other hand....that was my dad's. Just used it today cause the chevy bed was in my work truck. We love that car. All original. Unfortunately it has the six and not the eight.

I couldn't help myself and set the bed on my 86. It was a fleetside when I got it then I changed it to a stepper with plans of putting my rust free stepside that needs paint, wood, and fenders on it but I recently changed my mind and went back to a fleetside. It's been a long time since i've seen it like that. I am happy, I like it both ways but I will be able to use it more now and it looks like back in the day when I bought the truck.

Both..haha
Was sitting in a lawn chair having a beer so the door looks lower than it is but I have to unhitch the door opener and hold the door up above the header to get it in that bay.
