Title: Where does everybody carry their spare(s)?
Post by: Kevin108 on May 23, 2002, 02:26:00 pm
With the way they install the dual exhaust on my truck (before I bought it) there's no way to fit a fullsize spare underneath.  I have a toolbox in the bed but it came of my S-10 and fit between the bedrails (It came out of a Nissan to begin with!) so in the fullsize bed there's at least a foot of space between the end of the box and the right-hand bedrail so I have a fullsize spare inbetween the bulkhead and the wheel well, in between the tool box and the bedrail.  It's bunji corded in place temporarily.  I'll probably rig up a mount for it.  Just wondering what everybody else is doing...

Someone just gave me a 32" BFG All Terrain for a spare, complete with rim. Id also like to know how everyones mounting them up. I dont know if i could put one under the truck or not. Maybe i could just get one of those rope chain things like for bikes and tie it to my light bar??

what I mostly see is the spare tire hooked up to the RollBars in the box, or in a few cases Ive seen them put on the tailgate like a jeep.

I'm actually working on a mount that will secure it inside the bed to the bedrail.  When it gets off paper and I actually have something put together, I'll have some pics.

Title: Mount

My girls brother in law picked up an 86 2 wheel for the bed for his 80 4x4 and it had a factory spare tire bracket that bolts to the floor and the lip of the quater panel.

i have dual exhaust too and i had to rip the whole mount and spare off underneath the bed...it was a pain in the @$$ anyways if you needed it off in a hurry. I just threw it in the bed

I've always liked the pre-runner style spare tire mounts.  Fabtech Motorsports has a mount starting at $67.

I keep my spare on the right front axle, where the regular use to be.  Got a flat on the freeway last weekend.  Busted the bead off the rim.  That's gonna hurt the bank account!  Can't get the rims anymore!
