Has anyone out there had experience with Classic Insurance.I have been told that once you get it you do not have to run emissions so you do not need a cav. Also is it comparable to other insurances. Thanks

emissions have nothing to do with insurance companies but with the state you reside in. now if your state offers a "classic" tag you may pay less in insurance since you are limited to when and how many miles you can put on your truck
-
Or on the other hand, the friends I know that have classic insurance have it so they can put a higher value on their vehicle than what normal insurance company's list them for.
-
Taz, you'd need to register your truck as a classic vehicle here to get out of emissions, but then you are limited on annual mileage.

The only way to get out of emissions in arizona other than a classic registration is to register it in an area of the state that doesnt require emissions. My dad has his 2 jeeps and I have my truck registered in globe at my uncles address so we dont have to do.emissions. But, it has to be an address, not a P.O. box.

another thing to consider with classic or antique insurance, is driving restrictions. I was told by several of the specialty insurance companies out there that if insured with them I would not be able to haul or tow with my truck, mileage would be restricted, and use would be restricted to shows, club meets, maintenance, and club functions. Basically, no daily use.
I went with progressive, and did an agreed value policy. No restrictions, and if something happens they repair or replace, whichever is cheaper, up to the agreed amount. As it is a secondary vehicle, the rates are very do-able.

I am insured with JC Taylor w/ agreed value of 15k for 163 a year, no deductable. Agreed value means if i have a total loss I get 15k. I have to have another vehicle insured and registered that would be considered a daily driver and no towing or hauling over a certain weight (same as the collector plate requirements really). Other that I have no mileage restrictions or where I can drive it to. I can and do ocassionally drive it to work.
Originally I was insured with progressive w/ stated value of 15k for 800 every 6 mo with a 250 deductable. Stated value means as decribed by pyscho71.
So let your usage dictate what policy you buy. For myself it was a no brainer as I drive it as the insurance was designed and register it the same way. I get a lot more insurance for a lot less money.
Just be sure to understand the differance between agreed and stated value.
