Title: NON 73-87 BRAKE ISSUES
Post by: 73SWBBB on July 25, 2011, 04:14:45 pm
Im hoping I can get a little help on this forum without joining another. I have an 05 sierra crew sle with less than 10K on the new rear brakes. Recently they have seemed to almost lock up after coming to a complete stop. The squeak and drag the more I drive it. Sometimes it has no issues at all. With out having inspected it yet, anyone have any pointers for when I rip into this thing? I pulled it apart about 1000 miles ago and cleaned everything up and it went away but it soon came back.

Some people on the forum said that if the rubber brake line is getting dry and cracked it can act like a check valve not release the brakes. They aay one way to test it is crack the bleeder valve and if it releases the brakes than you need a new brake line.

Did you have the drums machined?  Did you get quality brake shoes?  The smaller shoe towards the front?  I got no idea if they are disc brakes in back though... I'll sit back and learn from the experts.

they were machined with decent quality pads and properly installed. like I said everything was good for about 10K but recently it seems something has happend back there, they are drums. I will pull the drums when I get home. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had any similar issues. Its all i am thinking about right now and i should be working. ha
