So i need to replace my blinker and wiper switch on my steering column on my 85 k20. I bought a replacement from the part store. Do i need to take apart the column to replace it or what?

Hey Topps, I have a question about one of the pictures. The 1st one showing the wheel without the center cover. it shows a silver ring with three screws in it, and I was wondering if there is suppose to be a spring or something there. Cause I am trying to get my horn to work and my steering wheel looks just like the 1st picture of the steering. So is there suppose to be something there?

Although I have never done it, it is my understanding that you just grab the stalk and pull it out! No steering column disassembly required! You gently pull the wiring out and disconnect it. Does this not work on an '85?

There is no spring under the cap like picture 1. Pic 5 is the Horn lead with the spring on it.
On the blinker switch are you just talking about the stalk sitting outside the column or the actual signal cam in the column.
If it is the stalk it will pull out, but you have to snake the wire from the bottom of the column. If you tie string to it when you pull it you can get it out and pull the other one in.

If it is just the stalk pull and twist back and forth. It will come out. i just did mine. As for the wire running down the column it is for the cruise control. I cut mine cuz I don't use it. If yours works you need to fish that wire out and pull new one in. Easier than I thought. I thought I had to pull the column apart for this. But thanks to this site I found out I didn't. ;D

Yeah, i just bought a new blinker switch from autozone, so that is all i need to do is put the new one in. SO let me get this right, all i need to do is pull on it and the plastic and rod will come out of the column.?

Yes. Pull and twist one way or the other. Be gentle. Push new one in and turn and it should lock in. ;D
