Title: Windshield washer pump
Post by: beastie_3 on August 01, 2011, 11:21:32 am
I finally have a working windshield washer pump after 10 years and all it took was hose, nozzles, and the container. Is the pump supposed to pulse the fluid, or is is supposed to come out in a steady stream?

It is supposed to pulse if the wiper motor is a part of it.  The newer style has an electric pump in the reservoir and that is a steady stream.

The replacement pumps now for the old mechanical pulse washer pumps that are mounted to the wiper motor are now electro-mechanical and are a continuous stream.  They work WAY BETTER than the old style and put out some pressure!

I bought mine at Auto-Zone for around $40.00 I think. What model truck is yours?

I got mine for my '77 K20 from NAPA.  It isn't the one that you need to align the cam with the gear on the wiper motor.  You just push the washer button and it runs continuously for a few seconds.

Oh...and by the way (just an FYI)...Silverado isn't a model it is a trim option.  The model would be K5, C10, K10, K20 etc.  Now days the Silverado is actually a model, but that didn't happen until 2000.

i knew that, but figured his intent of the question was different since my signature says 79 k10

the pump you got, was it OE replacement, or a universal pump?

OE Replacement.  I can take a picture of it and post with P/N if you like.  I was surprised about the change, but very pleased with the installation and operation.

I dont need it, im happy i finally got around to getting everything working. All I needed was nozzles, hose, and the reservoir.

Someone else might need it and come across the this thread, so maybe it would be a good idea to post it anyways.

Sorry Beastie I had a brain fart. I see the 79 K-10 now. Yeah, the ones at Auto-Zone or O Rielly's should fix you up just fine. The hose runs from the motor/pump straight to your existing fluid reservior.
