Hey guys been some years since I've been on here, but I'm wondering what would turn out cheaper, buying an '04 or so duramax, or getting like an '83 k20 and dropping a duramax and Allison into it? I'm not concerned with time or the amount of undertaking that is required to drop a max into a late model truck as I would be doing a frame off resto to it anyways. But I just wanna get yalls opinion on things before I bite the bullet. I'm gonna rebuild the motor either way I go so I can drop in performance pistons, rods, crank and the such as well as turbo upgrades and all that jazz. Just let me know yalls advice, opinions or what have you. Thanks, Garrett

It would probably be cheaper to get the 04, but keep in mind the LB7's were prone to injector problems.

I'll be dropping upgraded injectors into it as well, pretty much the only stock thing on that motor when I'm done will be the cam, block and intake manifold, it'll be getting two upgraded turbos, dual fuel pumps, and a new high performance frame mounted lift pump, I'll have a 1,000+hp diesel in either truck, just thinking of the cool factor with the late model

ive gone through this same thought process. i will build a dmax swap in a square one day haha

I like the idea of the Duramax/Allison/NP205 in the K 20 just because of the cool factor. But what I think would be really cool is a '73 - '80 crew cab 4x4 w/ a Duramax/Allison/NP 205.

I'm thinking the same thing, just too tough to find a crew cab, I had a '79 but I'm starting to like the square look more now
