So I bought a "Column Shifter Dress Up Kit" which turns out did not work for my truck (1978 C10) because it was "guaranteed to fit". I knocked the pin out of my shifter to install the new shifter and surprise, it didn't fit. When I pulled out the old shifter I heard springs clicking and sure enough now I can't reinstall the old shifter to where it works.
Is there a trick to reinstalling these things without taking apart the whole steering column. If not are there any good instructions for doing this?

I never had a issue installing mine. Knock out pin, take old lever out, install new lever, put pin back in.

I can get it reinstalled fine, but it just won't shift out of park when I do so. Looks like I am stuck taking apart the whole column an seeing whats going on. Can't do it in this heat though, truck might have to be parked for awhile.
