Title: 2WD to 4x4
Post by: Elpresidente on August 14, 2011, 06:42:40 pm
I've got an '82 C10, and i'm considering a 4x4 conversion.
I know roughly what needs to be done, but I'm wondering if it's worth it or if i'm just wasting my time.

Im planning on doing it. Most people on the forum wont recommend it. In short, youll need springs, spring hangers, front engine crossmember, trans, tcase, front axle, front steering components, steering box, high hump cab floor, trans/tcase crossmember, drive lines, brake lines. Heres what im planning on doing.

If your sheet metal is good, swap it onto a 4x4 frame.

Check the area behind the steering box, below also.   My friends father did it to an early 1980's Ram, took the driveline from a Ram Charger and put it into a Ram Chassis.  You will need to make sure the axle ratios are the same.

Good luck.

Watch my Blazer Thread, I am doing it right now and you can see why I don't recommend it.
