Title: 10 bolt rebuild parts
Post by: frotosride on August 19, 2011, 09:54:52 pm
I've been looking for everything i need to rebuild the knuckles and auto-locking hubs on my 10 bolt 8.5. Is there a place where i can get the upper and lower ball joints, bearings and even the u-joints at the knuckles. I figure if I taking it apart might as well only do it once. I also need new Tie-rod ends as all the steering components are originals and have been caked in grease and dirt for who knows how long '87 v10 350 tbi. I have found a few places where i can get the lower ball joints but not the upper' I'd like to order from one place if possible. Thanks for the help guys. oh and upgrades are welcomed ??? i'm new to the 4-wheel drive community and this is the first sfa that I've worked on. Given that how do i find the right type/size u/cv-joints for the front axle. mine desperately need to be replaced and i can't think of a better time to do it.

Autozone or Advanced Auto parts is where I would go first.  Then to Napa or an AC delco store if they didn't have something

upgrade: get manual hubs but yeah autozone should have it all if not should be able to order it. about the u joint its either 2-3011 or 1-0153 on my 79 its only 1-0153 all three are the same but i think its saying that 2-3011 is for the 2 in the cv joint while 1-0153 is for the front axle yoke joint. i would take my old ones in to match them up

If you're into mail ordering parts or just want to look around at what's out there try Summit, Randy's Ring and pinion, Denny's Driveshafts, Quad 4x4.  Google them for the websites.  They all have good online catalogues.  I ordered everything I needed for my 10 bolt from these four companies (including some tools from Quad 4x4).

I am finishing my dana 44 front end, I got most all parts at auto zone, but when I went to get the 1 piece rotor/hub assy's, they said they no longer stock them.  I got them at o'rielly's, along with the spindle bearing kits ( spindle bearing, beariing seal, spacer, and the outer larger seal) all in a package.  Part number SBK1 at O'rielly's.

That or HOW TO BE SAFE WHILE WORKING AROUND YOU, some people just don't get it.  I had a guy interview with me about 4 years ago, said he worked on airplanes.  When I asked him to hand me an adjustable wrench, he stared for awhile and picked up the water pump pliers.  He didn't last any longer than for me to say no way
