Title: Hurricane irene
Post by: Lt.Del on August 27, 2011, 08:00:37 pm
I hate hurricanes!!  had to cut short my camping trip this weekend and report to work.  Spent 12 hours at the county's emergency command center, now I'm off and the generator has my power restored.  May be days prior to electricity comes back.  We've had four inches of rain and still pouring and wind gusting 50+mph.  Trees down all over the place.
Did I mention i hate hurricanes?

When its done with you Vile it will be heading right over central N.H. By that time it should be less wind and just a crap load of rain!
I have gas for the genorator, its in the back of my truck, that way I can go to a couple of my buddies houses if we are out of power for extended time and run their fridges, and freezers, etc. I have drinking water, 100 gallons of washing, flushing water, milk, Dew, and some Jeremiah Weed Road House Tea. I should be good!!!

I was hoping it would come here to florida so I could get the overtime and hope it would take out alot of the empty house around here to raise my value up.

Well it was mostly floods around here and wind, but we had at least one tornado pop up couple more reported but they weren’t confirmed yet. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be power didn’t go off at home but did at work and the back-up came right on. Almost got in trouble at work because it was "state of emergency" and I was stuck in Maryland and since I was an essential employee I had to come to work. Didn’t even think about my 79 cause of the lift I didn’t want to hit something and roll her. so I took my 94 out on the road I normally take I came up on this one section of road saw the water so I started to creep threw it, then I lost site of the lines on the road. So I opened my door and the water was right at my rockers. So I backed up and called work they threaten to write me up if I didn’t come to work. knowing it was just bs to try to get me in I was about to call home then I thought I should at least try a different way in. got into work a little late but all was well. The bad part is if something would of happened to my truck while trying to get in i.e. stalled in water got towed away or wrecked it, the state wont pay for anything. had this one guy last snow storm got stuck they towed his car and fined him. State wouldn’t pay they said it was his duty to make it in, it was part of his job

still on generator power here.  80% of people around Richmond have no power.  Even work is on generator power.  Trees down all around. A big limb fell in my back yard.
I topped off my portable gas tanks and I'm glad this Honda sips gas, like 15 hours per gallon.  i have the essentials, cable, internet, tv, lights, fridge all hooked up.
Just got off work---16 hours of FEMA OT pay at the command center.  This county still has two shelters open.
survived yet another 'cane.

Those people shooting that video were really attached to the bridge.  I hate to see historic things demolished, you can never get them back.

A guy that lives about a mile from me grew up right down the road from that bridge. I was chatting with his girl friend when he came out of the house saying his dad had just called to tell him. He was upset as he remembers riding his bike across it every day to go to his friends house, and used to fish under it etc.

Me too! lost power sunday morning at about 3 and its still out. Have to the generator running fridges and essentials. Lucky that we has a gas water heater and are on city water so showers are still possible. The worst part about the whole thing is due to the power grid were on our neighbors across the street still have power! >:( Oh well well get through... glad to hear everyones okay with no major damage
