Title: 14 bolt Yoke
Post by: Da67goatman on August 30, 2011, 03:23:06 pm: Can I R & R my pinion yoke without messing anything up? Like the backlash, etc. My pinion yoke has 3 u-joint bolts snapped off inside so I would like to just replace it, but I have no way of resetting up the gears. Its a full floater that I just cleaned and painted and did a disk conversion on, it is not under the truck yet due to the fact that I can't bolt up the driveline with just one bolt :-\ I have never torn one down far enough to remove the pinion yoke, so I call upon the with knowledge. Thanks.

Post by: Irish_Alley on August 30, 2011, 05:28:06 pm: you can, just make a line across the nut to the yoke shaft. as a reference mark. you cant just re tq the nut due to things stretching. but i would try to remove the bolts without taking anything off if you can. are the bolts flush or broke off inside

Post by: Da67goatman on August 30, 2011, 05:50:31 pm: They are broken from 1/4" to 1/2" inside the hole. So as long as It goes back on to the same exact spot as it is now, I'll be ok? That brings up the question of what size is the pinion nut? Its HUGE!

I am not an expert on setting up gears

if you are steady with a drill try and use a ez out

Post by: Da67goatman on August 30, 2011, 07:47:58 pm: These are probably not going to come out, they've been broken off in there for 22yrs according to the guy I bought it off of. Plus I think I want to convert to the U bolt style retainers while I'm at it.

Post by: Irish_Alley on August 30, 2011, 08:27:13 pm: it’s not the nut that i know of but the thing is just like any bolt if you tq it down the loosen it the try to tq it down the bolt will stretch and it will take more to tq it down. that’s the reason for the line you make so you don’t over tighten it and ruin the bearing or leave it to loose
