Title: Stump the Chumps
Post by: thirsty on September 02, 2011, 02:26:08 pm
I listen to Car Talk in the garage sometimes. They have a part of their show called stump the chumps.

I got this stupid modification to the back of my cab that I keep wondering why somebody would do what they did. I'm stumped on this one. Before I remove it I thought I should post some pictures to see what everybody thought it might have been for.

They tack welded washers to the rear cab panel on the passengers side only. Some are no longer there. Some were moved. They aren't perfectly spaced out. I can't see where anything was ever attached to them.

In this pic you can see where it was moved for some reason. The crappy looking sanding marks are just from seeing how well the repaint they did was stuck to the original paint.

I would like to know what everybody thinks they did this for. The more entertaining the better. Also feel free to add whatever butchery that you found on your trucks/cars/houses ect and couldn't think of a reason why it was done.

Some jackass probably put them there too mount an amp and probably used magnets to secure it rather than screws.

That's your average run of the mill electronic signal disruptor. It's nothing fancy, but it keeps the aliens out of your head. The fact that it's only installed on the passenger side leads me to believe that the previous driver simply had nothing in his head worth hiding.

I think it may have been an attempt at some type of cosmic battery to capture the power of the universe and convert it to energy to get some more MPGs. I also think who ever put them in there gave up on the project prematurely. They are only on the passenger side to protect the driver from long term exposure to the cosmic rays.            Or it may have been the beginning of some type of beer holder....

;D  This is undeniably true

the aliens
This has been mentioned in the garage!

Or it may have been the beginning of some type of beer holder....
I wish they would have finished it. It would come in handy while working on it.

I'm usually wrong ,but is it possible they tacked the washers over holes so that they could fill them with weld .

I did notice when I leaned in to take those pictures I twitched a bit. I just figured it was a natural reaction. That's what the voice in my head told me, so, I'm going with that.

I'm gonna cut one off tomorrow to see.
If that's the case I bet the holes came from a shotgun blast. Being on the passengers side only, it was probably a professional mob hit. The truck I got the cab off was last registered in Mass. While they got Whitey Bulger in custody he should be questioned about it!

a young assembly line worker in Detroit trying to prove to his fellow workers that he knows how to tack weld. They had extra washers and they bet lunch on the fact wether junior knows how to tack weld.

do they act like a spacer? like so they have a flush mounting space between the convex and concave parts of the ridged part of the cab

We have a winner!

I took one off and I could see the welded hole, when I was doing it the filler they used on the outside of the cab showed itself also.

I wanted this to be true. I went out and took the flux capacitor out of my old delorean but it didn't fit  ???

This was my first thought but the washers are thicker.
