Title: front end - general maintenance

i am replacing the front calipers so while i have the front end jacked i was looking to scrape the rust and por 15 it.
i thoroughly inspected the cross member, control arms etc. and everything seems reasonably solid. i do see however that all the bushings are dry and the tie rod ends with the adjustment sleeve is pretty well rusted which i see could be a potential problem if i get an alignment.
what parts should i not invest a lot of time in because of possible future replacement as part of a basic front end tuneup (Control Arm Shaft,Tie Rod Ends etc)

Every time I grease my truck I always give the ball joint nuts, tie rod ends, and any other part that might have to be taken apart at a later date a squirt of weasel pee.

     I would say anything that is loose by your hand, or rusted and needs replacing, don't waste your time by putting por-15 on it.  You will just have to replace it.

I have had por-15 on my frame for a couple years now and it looks as good as the day I put it on. Also it has held up well

     Sorry, was talking specifically about bushings and tie-rod ends, my axles are por-15 and they are great and will probaly last longer that the truck.

How much POR15 would you need to paint axles, frame, tie rods, crossmembers, etc.? A guy at work said he did his truck with just a quart...?

you should be able to do all of that with just a quart and if you spray it you can get 2 coats out of it.
I did my frame and everything attached with just a quart and had some leftover.
