Title: heater core housing bolts
Post by: Low87 on September 20, 2011, 02:33:48 pm
I need to remove the box on the interior side of the firewall to get to the heater core.  The fasteners I see from the interior have what look like nail heads (smooth, round & flat).  Are these rivets, or are there nuts on the engine side of the firewall?

I had to remove the nuts from the engine side of the firewall for that to come out. I tried to pry on those fasteners on the inside and got no where. I think they are 11mm nuts. Would be handy to have a gear wrench... or a deep well socket.

Yup, nuts are on the engine side of the firewall. To save frustration, drop out the wheel well.

There is also one bolt from the inside on the far passenger side I think.

Is there a photo anywhere of where the nuts are?  I can't see them. Do I have to remove the suitcase on the firewall to access?

Erik is right, the bottom bolt near the trans tunnel is backwards...
