While i don't like saggy pants either---i think it's stupid. It's even stupider to make a law against it.
It's all over the net so i won't post any links. i think some Ga towns have the law and i think florida has it.
a) If the majority of people who wear their pants like this were responsible, were not delinquents, did not use/deal drugs then it would be okay? The lawmakers seem to think this will cure the problem; What do these things have to do with wearing pants low?
b) If a peson's underwear is covering the important parts, to me this qualifies as clothing and therefore there is no exposure, therefore what is the real problem? What if i wore shorts but no underwear? What is the difference?
This is completely wrong.
-
Its a total over reach of govt, as usual. I can tell you what it is right now, but not on this site.... GA isn't known to be to progressive in its thinking.
-
In my township, it is illegal. They just use it as one more way to practice illegal search and seizure.
-
Instead of making new nit-picking infractions (laws), what leaders should do is look at laws that are on the books now. ie: what is the definition of indecent exposure? Should that be broadened? They shouldn't look at it from the direction of pants being so many inches below the waist or whatever. Look at it from the other direction, existing laws that may need to be tweaked.
To me, since society has stipulated that no one can walk around au naturale, does that include just having underwear? If underwear (or lack thereof) is visible, does that constitute a violation of the law?
Don't put more laws on the books, tweak what is already there to fit the times.
I personally couldn't care less if it is just me seeing these things, but, (excuse the pun), but, if his frekin waistband is half way down his thighs and his undergarments are as visible as his ignorance and my family has to see this, I have a problem with that.
I applaud these airlines for kicking people off the planes and such, but, don't agree with their apologies later once the media gets a hold of it. Get a backbone!! Take a stand and be proud instead of folding from the media hype.
-
It's all because the lawmakers are getting a big kickback from the belt & suspenders lobby ;)
They just use it as one more way to practice illegal search and seizure.

I remember that, simon had to control himself. In Sac. area, it is not only that they have their pants down, they have them so far down they have to walk with there knees out and there feet 3 feet apart. It cracks me up and all I can think about is 10 years from now they will not be able to walk because they have destroyed there legs and knees.
Everyone around them are laughing at them, and for some reason they don't like that too much, I really can't figure that one out. As the saying goes, if you want to be successful, dress successful. Dress like a gang banger, get treated by the cops as a gang banger. Some of the laws that govern us a human beings just can not be messed with or changed. Human nature is human nature.
-
I have said it for year. If I was a cop I would be writing thses tool bags tickets for indecent exposure
-
If they knew where this style came from they wouldn't be emulating it
-
That logic does not work with people who wear their pants like that. I used to be a bouncer at a popular night club here in Sac, and the policy was to not let in ( or throw out ) any body who pulled there pants down. So I got tired of tossing idiots out and decieded to try and educate them to see if I could get them to grow up, it never worked, they don't think that it applies to them.
-
i just don't think there is any logic or fairness behind these laws.
i used to work with a guy that did this, while i thought it was really dumb i could not see anything---he had boxers on. Therefore, there was nothing to really get directly offended by. Now, if his underwear also started to slide you can bet i would went to the supervisor about that.
We have to look at what is the technical definition of indecent exposure----we can't just make it up on the spot to suit our needs. i don't have time to research right now, but i would think if everythings covered up then you're good. Example, you may know i'm into biking. i've worn my bicycle shorts many times. No one complained, but it sure did attract some attention. Or what if you go to the beach/pool/spa etc? The beach and pools are usually a public place. Does this mean everyone should be arrested or ticketed?
i also don't like the whole gold teeth thing. Should we enact a law against that as well?
Here's another thing----i don't like the idea of painting a tattoo on my skin. Yes, that's right i said it-----I DON'T LIKE TATTOOS and i don't like tattoos on other people. But i agree with a person's right to have one or more.
We can't impose our preferences on other people when their behaviour/or actions don't directly offend or endanger us. The idea of freedom is what makes our society great. i thought so at least.
i think these laws are completely anti- American and bordering on racist.
-
How is it racist? Are you saying that only a certain race does this? Ill disprove that.
-
This doesn't have anything to do with indecent exposure, and it has nothing to do with race. Watch an episode of cops and see people of all colors getting thrown in the back of the car, with their saggy pants falling down.
20 years ago you might be targeted by cops for long hair and tattoos. Today's version is saggy pants.
Do I think that targeting people that look like a bunch of crack head gangbangers might produce more legitimate arrests? Absolutely. Do I think that the .gov should legislate matters of fashion? Absolutely not.
$16 trillion in debt with no end in sight and this is how they spend their time?

Years ago I worked for a commercial roofing company. I paid my dues and moved into an office job there. When we hired people they had to go through me first. I thought exactly like the owners of the company when it came to the baggy/saggy pants. We did not discriminate at all, one thing for sure was nobody was going to work for us that was not going to be an asset to the business. If somebody walked in with his pants down to fill out a job application he didn't have a very good chance of us even considering him. How could you look like you have one once of hustle in you if are dressed like that? I'm from the days when you took your lunch box to a job interview so you could start right then and there. First impressions mean alot, especially in todays economy I would think. The best way I found to get a feel if I should even consider an applicant was with a handshake. If you are applying for a physical job like that then you needed to already have some caluases on those hands. 99.9% of the time guys wearing the baggy pants with the flat brimmed cap turned sideways when I shook there hand it was like shaking my daughter's hand. I had nothing against the look although I thought it was stupid, they just got no respect from me in a real life situation.
-
you know the saying that the majority of criminals are one race. well where i work its true and i can say this that one race is the only race that we have to tell to pull up there pants. now other races will let them hang lose but they dont sag well the majority. now on the streets it goes both ways that football player who got kicked off a plane. it wasn’t cause he sagged his pants it was they asked him to pull them up he refused so then they kicked him off and every web site i saw about this said it was a racist issue. well if hes the only one who was sagging and the others around him where all races they didnt get kicked off only him, this is an idiot issue. then they said he was grieving for the lost friend. its life people die doesn’t mean if you lose a love one you get a "get out of jail free" card and get to break any rule you want. but certain citys are different look at ny with the naked cowboy and cowgirl. i remember hearing about some adult dancers in vegas that where in a moving van of some sort and instead of normal walls they has Plexiglas so you can see in, if i remember right if you are in a car it not indecent to be nude but they were dancing in the van. cops pulled them over just because what they were doing and since they couldnt get them for indecent exposer they wrote them all tickets for not wearing their seat belts
-
This explains it all. Just an honest mistake
-
it has absolutely nothing to do with race. I have seen blacks wear their pants down at their knees as well as hispanics and whites. It doesn't matter what color the skin is. It's more an age thing than anything else. I don't see too many 40 year olds doing this. thugness is thugness.
What if one wears his pants at his ankles and his briefs are showing like the noon day sun? That is indecent exposure and cops will address that. Just the same, if someone is wearing only underwear walking down Main Street with nothing else on. Why, because the public doesn't want to see a thug and his underwear. No different than having pants at his knees and displaying undergarments. It's illegal.
Swimming wear while at a pool or beach is completely different because it is expected you won't wear jeans while swimming. Kids aren't offended by the site..the family decides to go there. I don't want my family seeing one's pants hanging down and showing their underwear while shopping at the mall or flying on an airplane. Why even wear pants if they don't cover anything? Heck, just go to work in your fruit of the looms.

I'm all in favor of the bans. Bad fads should be policed. Guys shouldn't be allowed to wear pants ten sizes too big. Overweight girls shouldn't be allowed to wear low-rise jeans ten sizes too small. No one should ever have been allowed to sell, much less buy, a leisure suit. Think of all the pictures they will have to be embarrassed about in the future. Like all those folks with pictures of themselves in bell-bottoms and afros and loud, paisley-print, polyester shirts. What a pity. This is an area where the government really could, and should, make a difference. They could have fashion police who fine people for wrinkled shirts and unpolished shoes. Ah, utopia!

Here's my take on it. Let people offend people. I really don't care if some idiot wants to wear his pants like a fool. I don't care if a fat girl wants to wear a shirt that shows her lard hanging over her pants either. I don't care if people want to tatoo their face or put fruit loops in their ears. I don't care if you have a mohawk, long hair, short hair, green hair or no hair! You don't have to interact with them. It's a free country - if you don't like them- avoid them. It's none of the Governments friggin business how people dress. I don't care for saggy ass pants either but outside of school or work it's their right to look stupid.
-
I don't care if a fat girl wants to wear a shirt that shows her lard hanging over her pants either.
I care about this- I don't like to puke in public when I see some 400lb woman in spandex bend over in front of me....
-
im with you vile. but you have to be firm fair and consistent. how can you let Vitorias secret show their adds but when some guy shows his its not ok? i hate spandex because they dont fit me right lol
-
it's easy to say 'avoid' them. But, if you are out minding your own business then a punk is in front of you in line---well, let's just say you can't remain a hermit in your house your entire life. And, there are degrees to laws. Why would the gov't be able to act if someone is completely nude in public, versus just slightly covered. It is a gov't issue while in public. Drinking in public is against the law, like it or not. Even a watered down drink is illegal in public. In my mind, these exhibitionists should all be labeled a sex crime and must register as a sex offender showing off their not-so-desiress aspects of themselves.
Don't get me wrong. I am a libertarian at heart, there are way too many laws on the books. The gov't has overtepped their constitutional requirements a million fold over the last three decades, but, this is a democracy too. Put it on the ballots. I don't want to have to look at one's dirty frekin boxers hanging out their waistband. I wouldn't disrespect anyone around me. Just like someone with a loud stereo. I don't want to blow my eardrums because some knucklehead wants to turn his 3,000 watt 30" woofers way up and rattle my truck glass. Yes, the gov't should act in these case because it impacts the innocent bystander who is minding his own business.
Now, I'd rather do away with most laws on the books if I am able to take matter in my own hands....I'd act upon that in a split second and handle it myself, but, I can't. I'd end up in jail myself and have civil cases lodged against me. So, I must rely on laws to handle these cases.

So I take it some of you have never gone to the beach. If you can't look at someone and get a laugh out of it then YOU are the one with the problem. I've been in education for 10 years now and I'll tell you I see every trend their is. In school they have to pull their pants up and tuck their shirts in but the minute they walk out that door if they want to paint themselves green and dress like Tarzan that's their business. The day you allow the governement to tell you how to dress is the day you are giving up your freedom.

We have given up our freedom long ago.....
Laws are created to allow us all a level of comfortability in Public places in Civilization.
There are laws preventing lewd behavior (who defines that?), Proper attire (no shirt, no shoes, no service), and many others.
There are laws to keep us all "civilized" when out in public.....And being forced to see some morons ass in public is another one I agree with.
As for Victorias Secrets ads, the models aren't walking down the street, dude'ing this and that around little kids, talking about women like they are female dogs, and most definitely not braggin about the weed they smoke, or how many times they were in jail...... The ads are in MAGAZINES which I CHOOSE to look at or CHOOSE not to look at...
-
So you don't see ads anywhere other than in a magazine? What about bilboards and windows, malls, tv, website adverts.
I agree we have given up many of our freedoms by allowing law makers (and whoever the heck these people are is beyond me but it certainly is not WE the people) to dictate many laws that promote no protection or purpose other than telling people how to live their lives. A law to tell someone how to dress who isn't nude isn't protecting anyone.

Exactamundo 2!
1) It's okay to breast feed in public (i actually agree with this one), yet the pants thing is not ok......?
a) Based on the limited research i've done, indecent exposure means the private areas are exposed. As well as intent---(there is none because nothing is being exposed to begin with.) Again, i say nothing is being exposed here. (yes, i briefly checked va as well. Would the good sgt. be so kind as to furnish the exact va written law if possible?)
b) If they had to come up with a totally new law vs. just applying the indecent exposure laws then this further proves the point---because they can't apply the indecent exposure laws.
2) Now about the "racist" thing that i brought up. This is predominately practiced and started by mainly Black guys. i don't think we can really debate that point. And yes, i understand and observe that not everyone that does this is Black.
i'm telling you this is wrong, wrong WRONG!

I said put it to the ballot. There are jurisdictions all around adding these laws to the book. I'd love to see that added to the books where I happen to walk around. What good use comes from wearing pants around your knees and displaying undergarments as a common practice?
This is my opinion. We all have opinions. When you have small kids of your own that you try to teach and protect them from, well, I'm just saying a person out in public should not have to be exposed to that if they choose not to. That's all. I am also against people begging for money. When I go down main street and sitting at a red light, I don't want someone talking to me through my window when I don't want to talk to them. There are more social programs out there than there ever have been taking up our tax money yet people give money to these non-taxpaying leeches who never finished 9th grade and have made bad decisions throughout their lives.
Just saying.
-
Simply put, your rights end where my rights begin.
I have the right to walk down the street and NOT be offended by someone else showing their ass covered in boxers.
I have the right to walk down the street and NOT be in fear of a "thug".
Nursing in public- NATURAL and HEALTHY for a baby.
A picture on a billboard I can choose to not look at, but a moron in line in front of me with his butt out I have no choice....
Indecency is defined by the PEOPLE in the community..... Laws are crafted from those who are involved in the communities politics....

So a new neighbor moves in down the street, you see him getting the mail, he has his baggy pants on and his cap sideways. He listens to rap with the loudness booming. You go over to his house to tell him to shut his crappy music off and pull his pants up and to call him a thug right to his punk face when you realize the crappy music is coming from his truck while his boxers are showing as he's leaning over the fender of his 73 Chevy Blazer giving it a tune up. Maybe that's when you realize this is just a person much like you but just doesn't look like you or act like you. When you were a teen did your momma dress you? Did everyone approve of what you looked like/dressed like? If everyone acted the same and looked the same we'd be in Hitler's dream world.

-
I tell him nice truck, pul up your dang pants boy!
-
And what do you think he'd say to you?
-
Every one has free agency, but at the same time unless you live out in the country, you live in a community. For a community to survive there has to be some sort of standards or it would be anarchy. Now there is laws about indecent exposure to protect those who can not protect themselves. Baggy pants, ( though I hate it and think it is retarded ) does not hurt anyone, so if they want to wear them nobody has the right ( unless you own a business and they want to come in ) to tell them they can not wear their pants like that.
The music on the other hand I am pretty sure most towns and cities have a decibel level that you are not to exceed ( though rarely enforced ), I think on a moral standing, people have relaxed way too much and this is but 1 of the side effects of a society that has strayed away from a base that the majority of people would have frowned on wearing baggy pants and it would have never taken off in the first place.
I guess what I am saying is that instead of blaming the person wearing the baggy pants, look around and blame everyone else for letting it take off and continue.
-
He would either lump it or tell me to go fly a kite! Either way he would know where I stand!
-
It's not the clothing that is the real issue, it's the attitude that most baggers have. If you dress and look like a punk then people are going to think you are a punk regardless of what you are really like. Personally I would like to see the pants pulled up. It's just a bad phase that has gone on longer than it should have (like square bodies painted neon colors years ago). In my location we don't have nearly as many of these guys as most of the other members, they look out of place and foolish around here. Although my daughter still laughs about me meeting one of her H.S. boyfriends for the first time on my porch dressed like that. He comes up to me and says "suuuppp" and tries to shake my hand like a gangsta. I'm dressed in logging boots, jeans, flannel shirt, camo hat drinking a Mich light after working all day and say "What??" So he says it again louder like I didn't hear him. I say "What??" again. He just stands there and waits for my daughter, maybe feeling a little tension. She comes out and is ready to go and I tell her I haven't met your date yet. He finally gets it, takes off his hat, shakes my hand like a man, and speaks normal. I knew she wouldn't date a punk and I wanted to meet the real boyfriend not what he was pretending to be.
-
This is not about fashion or indecent exposure. This is about passing a law that gives a little bit of probable cause for the police to question people that dress like the majority of people comitting crimes, without the probability of getting sued for harassment. If most criminals have saggy pants, then it makes sense to look at people with saggy pants as a possible threat. You know, the same way that if you get on a plane, chances are it's not an 80 year old grandma that gives you a bad feeling about it, but maybe the 3 middle eastern guys yammering in arabic that makes your situational awareness flare up. The government doesn't need to stick their nose in any of this, but it's common sense, which has gone out the window for the sake of being politically correct as to not offend anybody. It's not racist or "profiling" to say that if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, there's a chance that it could be a duck.
The day you allow the governement to tell you how to dress is the day you are giving up your freedom.
^this. It's a slippery slope. But in this case there are underlying themes that have nothing to do with how you dress.
Sgt Del, this is not a democracy. This is a Constitutional Republic.

I call the cops and they cite him for noise level violations (Community standards set in law) and indecent exposure (Community standards set in law).
That is what the law is for, to protect the quality of life the community has. If he wants to wear his pants around his knees, and show off his in boxers, he can live elsewhere. That is what EVERY community has the RIGHT to do.....
Doesn't matter if he's white, black or purple. It has to do with the fact I have a right to participate in a community where standards are set, and where a lifestyle of MY choosing is supported in law.
I guess you'd find it OK to let a person live next to you that walked [edited for language, you guys know better -admin] because he has the right to free speech and freedom to express himself.. I bet in that case you'd have an issue as it goes against YOUR standards....

Most of you are saying that its wrong to see a guys boxers cause of his pants being too low but about the Vitoria’s secret adds like vile said they are all over bust stops and so on. If someone is caught urinating in public it’s a sex crime yet someone can breast feed and its ok. How can this be fair? Now if nothing is seen then no crime so how can seeing someone’s boxers a crime. Now me I love my wranglers and love them to be worn with a belt and tight. My brother is a jar head he wears his pants without a belt and every now and then you can see his boxers is this wrong. I mean how it can be wrong when he served on the front lines to protect our freedom. Its his freedom to decide not to wear a belt the same freedom he fought for. Now if someones pants sagging is a sign of a thug and intimidates you. Then hes doing what he wants. And if that’s the only thing that scares you wouldn’t you want to know that he is who who is and not dressed just like you. If you base a person on how they dress and want everyone to dress like you then your new found “friend” who looks like you is now steeling your truck cause you are his friend and you left your wallet and keys on the kitchen counter. I got sad new for you the guys who fought for our freedom don’t all drive trucks wear wranglers ,wear a belt or listen to country. Now to say its ok for them to look and dress like that cause they served but its not ok for a neighbor to dress like that cause they didn’t serve. Whats wrong with that picture
-
Now if someones pants sagging is a sign of a thug and intimidates you. Then hes doing what he wants.
How can anyone be intimidated by someome who dresses like a clown!

Yeah, because someone wearing saggy pants is the same as someone verbally assaulting a child ::)
-
i know what he was trying to say. If one is for not passing laws and limiting 'freedom' for scumbags because they aren't like 'us', then not passing laws against cursing in public and freedom of speech and such can easily cause the migration to cursing at children since no laws will be there limiting that activity.
But, there are catch-all laws on the books like disorderly or harrassment or public nuissance, whatever. Whether it holds up in court or not is a different matter. There could also be protective (restraining) orders against those individuals and the judge will enforce that.
Regardless of all this, this is America. This is a land made of different people. This is land founded on liberty. With liberty comes responsibilities. It's just some are less responsible than others because everyone is different. Some like to express their differences in many ways.
It's frustrating that the age old rule of survival of the fittest no longer exists. Everyone exists no matter what now, whether they deserve to or not and pass their genes on to even more ignorant generations in the future. Gotta take the good with the bad. It sure would be nice to be able to do something about this, but, the days of the wild west is over.

This is getting out of hand. Drop the subject and let's get back to trucks. Someone should have reported this.....
