Sorry, I don't know much about this part of the truck. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I have pictures on my home computer but not here at work.
If I remember, I think you have to loosen a couple screws/nuts on a clamp so the ball can pop into place. Once the ball is in, you retighten the screws to keep it in place.
I'm going by memory here but will try to get the pic some time today.
Did I miss it, or what year of truck is this?

Here is a pic from inside the cowl area. It's showing the wiper motor arm connected to the wiper linkage.
When you removed the old motor, the ball just popped out of the linkage? I don't think it should have. You should have had to loosen the two nuts to get the ball out of the linkage. Maybe the ball is just a bit larger on the new wiper motor. Anyway, just loosen the two nuts as shown in my picture. There should be an access hole above the wiper motor to get to the nuts from the top. Pop the linkage onto the ball and retighten the nuts. I would even put a dab of grease on the ball first so you don't end up with a squeak from this pivot down the road.
Hope this helps.

thank you for the replies.  my wiper arm has no screws or nuts.  its just a rod with the little cup in it facing the ball stud.  its an 86 so maybe firefighters is an older system.  Anyways after 2 hours my neighbor had a gnarly looking crowbar tool that we reamed in the access hole and got the ball to pop back into its home.  i had to get the tool about 2 inches down the rod from the ball stud for it to finally work.  what a pain......isnt it weird how everytime you think a job on our trucks is only gonna take about an hour....well you all know what happens right?!   thanks for the replies though

Had a similar thing happen... on our 2005 Mercury Sable last winter the window froze and my wife tried to open it...  Well the window motor popped the ball out of the channel and bent it.  For the life of me I tried everything to pop that sucker back in after I straightened what bent.  I didn't want to risk breaking the window so just shy of the $300 mark at the Ford house it was fixed.  Turns out they were not supposed to come in and out and the regulator had to be replaced and of course everything was riveted in as well as the track to the window.
