I'm restoring an 86 Silverado. All four rims have rust spots on them. Can anyone assist in the best technic or product for removing the rust and giving a good shine.

If they are painted steel, the only way to get them back up to par is to sand and repaint them.

What would you suggest for sand paper and what product for painting. Do you recommend just a spray paint style?

It really depends on what they look like as to what grit to use and how to go about finishing it. If you are planning on repainting the whole thing it is easier to have the rim sandblasted, primed and painted.
Eastwood makes an argent wheel paint that matches the factory color. Chris Lucas

Sand blast them front, back, and bead area. SEM brand makes a good self etching rust inhibitive primer, and you can get it in a spray bomb. If the rust pits are deep they also have a pretty good high build primer in a spray bomb, prime sand and prime the pits until they are filled then give the whole whell a couple coats, sand with 320 grit and paint. The self etching stuff does not need to be sanded as long as you top coat it within a few hours, I paint wet over wet with this primer.

i have a question. i'm not certain as to go with some TTII's yet and i'm cool with my current rims (brand unknown, but very popular) i'm sure they are brushed and clearcoated with white "wing" type, 5 star like areas. if i want to get the nicks and re-paint the swept back white areas, how do i get rid of the clearcoat and on to the repainting/protecting phase. if needed, i can post some pix (soon as i find someplace to host the pix) thanks.
