Title: Input please!
Post by: Senck243 on October 21, 2011, 11:39:08 pm
Bought my 84 k10 off eBay and slowly been going through it getting ready for winter. The po swapped trannys and put an sm465 with hydraulic clutch in. It was a factory manual truck. I bought it knowing the front drive shaft was out due to bad u joint. Come to find out the transfer Case linkage to the shifter is missing and the front hubs are gutted. How to I test the transfer case and front diff to make sure there are no major problems without the truck moving? Thanks

first thing is to find out what transfer case you have, post pics or search for some. sounds like someone abused the truck something might have broke and they just said "all it needs is a tune up" but even if you lock the t case to 4x4 the front shaft might lock up but put pressure on it it might not stay that way. only way to see is with weight on it

the 208 being chain driven it either brakes or doesnt but the chain can stretch. you could just rebuild it to be on the safe side but most will tell you they are under rated
