Carbureator question. When starting my stepside, mash the gas pedal to set the choke, crank engine, starts up runs for a few seconds and dies. I repeat this senario a few times and finally the engine starts to runs at the correct fast idle. Previous owner says he had the carb rebuilt, but something is not exactly on even keel. When the engine is warm the truck cranks and runs perfect, just happens on cold starts.

thought when you press the gas pedal it disables the choke? but my truck does the same thing till I got the choke setup right. had to keep adjusting it

Check your choke settings. Make sure the chocke coil is good and properly set. Make sure the choke break works. Sometimes it's just a simple cleaning and adjustment.
