ok guys i had an idea today. look at the pics of this amp i posted.http://s1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff491/cmob68/       
now what if i hooked up the +12v to the positive on my battery and the GND to my ground and the other 4 to my 2 6x9 speakers and the input to a cable running to my ipod. how would this work? and if it works good. ill do it with my 1400w boss riot amp and my 2 12s punch speakers.

Get a headphone jack to RCA adapter and it will work fine. It just bypasses the stereo, but you would only be able to control everything from the ipod.

You'll still need a remote wire hooked up to turn on the amp as well. Why not get a head unit with an aux input?

No, you can run a wire from the fuse box for accessory  so when you turn the key on it turns the amp on.

I was pointing out that it would be easier to just plug the ipod into the head unit and also run the the speakers with the radio playing as well. Although not needed just more convenient.

I would run it through a head unit with an aux port and use the deck for powering your full range speakers. Then you can use the remote signal and rca's from the deck and only run an amp for your subs. I think that it would greatly increase your sound quality if you use the rca jacks in lieu of the adapter. Whatever you end up doing with it, make sure to fuse the B+ to the amp.

Since you already have the small amp you definatley could run regular speakers from that and run the second larger amp as well, this is how I have mine set up. I don't run an ipod but have the aux hook up to do so if I wanted, I have all of my music saved to a flash drive and plug that in to a usb port on the head unit and I can page through folders(albums) and files(tracks) through my head unit controls.

Forgot to mention; in order to hook up two amps you'll need to have two sets of pre-outs on the head unit
       ----or----
One of your amps need to have output rca jacks.

Unless you split the RCAs with a "Y". Also, if you use both amps, set the one for the 6x9s to high pass only and the one for the subs to low pass only. That will make the high frequencies (highs and mids) go to the 6x9s and the low frequencies (bass) go to the subs.
