Any idea where to get touch up paint in  Mahogany Metallic code 68?   It's from 83,  i don't think it was a popular color.   i don't think duplicolor or the others carry it.   If i can get something close, that's good enough.

     The only luck I found on the internet that even came close was from corvette's, 81 I believe.  Have you tried to have a local shop try to match it for you ?

Our local paint shop can match paint by color or codes or years.
They can make up that color in spray cans, or small touch up bottles, or larger volumes.
I think most up to date paint shop are that way nowadays.

As far as getting a shop to match it, it's only a few very small spots.  i'm not trying to get it perfect---i just want to cover things up, prevent rust/further rust etc.  And as you can see by my limited pictures, this is work truck/daily driver so i really don't care about perfection.


Yes, i noticed the 81 corvette had this color too.

i will try the dealer soon.

     I would try a corvette dealer like you said, they sell the small touch up bottles of paint, not too expensive, though for an 81 they might have to order it for you.

1) Conclusions:
Brown(and shades of) just wasn't popular back then and it certainly is not popular now----when was the last time you saw a new brown car?

i tried "dark torreador metallic" code 51.  Not even close.   i was able to get the dupli-color bottle for .5cents though because this color, too, is discontinued.   The guy behind the counter was saying that sherwin williams can mix it on the spot if you have the code/or vin# etc.   i've decided that since the scratches and problem places are so inconspicuous on the truck i will probably not excercise that option and just maybe use the torreador.   But for anyone else in a similar situation who has a sherwin williams auto paint store in your area, this may be something to try.

i forgot about the dealer and may try them tomorrow.

The dealer didn't have it and gave the impression that they don't care either.   This is fine as i really didn't want to do business with them anyways.


i think this is a forgotten color.

     In my experience, corvette dealers like to be snotty, and stuck up.
