I know there are casting numbers on the rear of the drivers side on the block. What the easiest way to see it? I tried from the top, I took some pictures near the oil pressure switch area, doesnt look anything like casting numbers, where are they exactly?

The casting numbers are on back but the numbers that should give you the most info is behind the alternator on the engine block pad. Look through and it should tell you exactly what your engine came from.

I'm having the same issue trying to figure out what's in my 85 Chevy Silverado 4X4. The numbers on the casting are V0526CHS?
