Title: Motor mounts
Post by: 1979C20 on October 31, 2011, 07:16:38 pm
I keep going through motor mounts. Ive put 2 sets in my truck in the past year and just bought another set today. 2 of the bolts that hold the clamshell to the engine are missing and they had lock washers on them. The motor mounts are sagging and making the engine sit on the frane  and the rubber inserts split apart where the metal sleeve is. Any ideas on why they are doing this or how to fix it? Oreilly has energy suspension inserts but theyre pricey at 34 dollars each.

stop burning so much rubber!!!  ;D

Really, check your trans mount insulator.  If it is shot, there will be  a lot of shifting and pressure on engine mounts.

Side stepping a clutch with a posi in a 3/4T truck, that is more than likely the issue.

Have you noticed a trend ?  The older ones on here (who probable went through this ) are saying slow down  8).  The only other thing I would add, is sometimes price does matter on certain parts.  It might be time to fork out some money and buy some high end mounts.

While I was under my truck today unbolting one of my glass packs, I noticed mg tranny moint is missing 2 bolts. I guess that explains why the shufter moves 2 inches to the right when I let the clutch out. So I guess my tranny mount wore out my engine mounts?

Stop buying Chinese motor mounts.

You are very lucky you've only had problems with the motor mounts...

yep.  I always replace engine mounts with transmission mount---they are the only real things that keep your engine/trans firmly in place.
