ok mule-gear 4-speed has no fuel milage, wanting to swap to the a883 overdrive which is common in chevy trucks 82-86 will an np208 t-case bolt to it and will my bell housing work?? and also driveshfts?? need some info

Actually I am receiving my A833/OD and 208 transfer case this monday. (out of a 84 k10 chevy) From my research, you need the bell housing that is on the A833, which will bolt to the 350, the one on the SM465 will not bolt to the A833.
The 208 came with the OD transmission. I am not sure on the driveshaft length, but when I receive them I can find out.
I have to point out 1 comment you made. They were not as"common" as you might think, or there are just not that many out there left. I have been looking for almost a year before finding this set. I did find at least 2 places on the internet that sell them, but they were pricey by the time you buy bell housing, parts for clutch, etc. etc. I have found several 2wd versions at local pick-n-pull places around my house, just not 4wd versions.
Another point, they are not as strong as the SM4645, but in my case, my truck will only see fire roads and camping, otherwise it will be a street truck, so the OD will put me in the perfect rpm range with my tire size I want.
Hope this helps, any more questions, ask, I have a lot of research I have done.

Most of the bell housings on the 82 on up I have seen have the dual bolt pattern to accept either transmission. They are a rare find even in 2 wheel drive. The biggest/hardest component is the shifter and linkage. If you find that you've scored big time. Even though it is a Hurst shifter and Hurst will rebuild they do not list them for sale.

ok cool i could have me driveshft re-worked,my truck is a longbed 4x4 i dont do heavy pulling but i do go wheelin on occasion. would the trans handle 33x10.50's?

If you are looking at an O/D tranny look into the NVG4500. It is essentially the SM465 only with an O/D gear. Plus there is a ton of aftermarket support for it.
-
Nv 4500 will require modifications, the a833 is basically a plug and play swap.
-
with the nv4500 id have to do alot of modifications espically with my t-case.i have looked into that, and what clutch set up does the a833 have to have mech. or hydro.?
-
On your 84, if you could find the sep up out of an 81 - 84 chevy that had the a833, you just need to swap it over. I wish you better luck than I had, it took me almost a whole year to find mine, (i did get mine on friday, which had the cross member and clutch parts, so I was surprised). Here's some pics of mine.

thats freakin sweet, could you help me out with some connenctions?

Bake, less than a year is good... It took me 18 months and a 1100 mile round trip for my first one. Second one came in a truck I bought off of eBay, stumbled across a third at a swap meet...

Do you mean connections on where to find one ? If so that is why it took me almost a year to find one.

Kinda on topic, can I use a mopar 833 and the chevy bellhousing or the mopar bellhousing and an adapter plate? There are way more mopar 833 out there than GM.
-
Input shaft is different, longer to. They are out there you just gotta be searching for them and know what you are looking for. Just like when I found one at a swap meet, trans with linkage no bell housing.

Is for a 85 on up juice clutch with the dual pattern, SM 465 and the A 833

Zeig is right, mopar will not mate to chevy as far as the 833, and again zeig is right, the chrysler a833's, especially the 2wd ones, can be found on 3 speed cars also (colum shift also). They put that trans into 3, 4, and 4(O/D) versions from the 60"s up the mid 80's.
-
yea like where could i start looking for one

eBay is where I found 2 of mine. First was just the trans, bellhousing and shifter complete. The second one I found a complete 1983 GMC complete with a blown engine that had the A833 transmission. Parted that truck out after I took the transmission all out.

I just keep going to local yards, (found alot of 2wd ones). Craigslist, and ebay. Maybe even put out your own ad on those sites and see if anyone has one.
I was looking to buy a whole 81 -85 chevy diesel 4wd truck just to get the combo, but everyone I ran across had the sm465. I will keep my eyes open and if by chance I run across one I will let you know.
Your other option is go to drivetrain.com or others that sell them, they are pricey and then get parts at your local yard to finish if need be.

found one in Charlotte N.C. which is about an hour away for 600,good deal or not?
-
$600 is steep unless it is in perfect condition complete with shifter linkage and bell housing.

If it is 4wd and complete like zieg said with the transfer case attached, not bad. 2wd, is a little steep, even if it has the bell housing and shifter.
I have found the transmission on line, rebuilt for about $1500.00 with shipping ( no bell housing or shifter or knob) for a 4wd one, so when I found my set up I jumped all over it, couldn't beat the price, even with shipping way less than that.
