Title: Power steering with headers
Post by: 81chevyskullc10 on November 06, 2011, 07:02:37 pm
Okay I have an 81 Chevy SWB with a 78-79 305. I have headers and my power steering bracket is missing and so when I get on it and the motor torques it makes this screeching noise. I was curious as to if anyone knows of what bracket to use for the steering pump with a motor that has headers. Hope some one can help!!! thanks

I used my stock bracket; I just lengthened it to mount with headers. I can post pics if you need to see exactly how I did this. Another option would be to use a stud to space out the distance that you would need with a stock bracket.

Ya I would love to see that if you dont mind. I went to the junk yard and picked up a bracket off a suburban and I do not have the factory bolts, so I was curious how that can be done. Thank you so much!

Here is a pic after;
I cut off the mounting tab where it would have bolted to the exhaust  manifold added a short piece in between and welded it back together.

I know Moroso makes a bracket that would take care of your problem. I know other companies do too, but I can't think of any of their names right now. I cobbled something together for mine about 15 years ago, intending to do it right in a few weeks. I might be the king of procrastination.
