Just bought a 79 GMC K1500 with a NP 203. However the previous owner has put a different boot/handle/knob combo on it that is really bad IMO. I am interested in getting a stock replacement, any ideas on were to look or does anyone have one laying around? I also may be purchasing a 4spd manual transmission for the truck with a 205 transfer case (I love manual trans.) what all would be involved in the changeover?

junkyard for the handle, and you need from the clutch pedal to the driveshafts. if you do some searching on here i think its covered

Irish is right about the handle. And as for as the swap, I have found a donor truck is the easiest way to go. Unless you have like a pick-pull where you can go and pull all the parts you need. Trying to piece together everything takes along time and can get costly.

Might have found a donor truck.

coloradok5 (http://coloradok5.com/auto2manual.shtml) has a pretty good write up on this swap

Thanks for the link, might be a little more than I'm willing to get into at the moment.

Auto to 4-sp.....It is really not that bad. I have done it numerous times.
The holes in the frame for the x-member even line up right on the money when switching from a TH-350/NP203 to the SM465/NP205. :)
The first time I did it I had the two trucks side x side. Now I can do it in my sleep.
