what years did that shiny piece come on the tailgate that had Chevrolet on it. i would like to find one but i have no clue what its called or where to look. also would it be hard to install on my truck that never came with it. I've only seen one on a truck around here and it was on my brothers 79 Cheyenne.

It's a tailgate band. They came optional on all years. There are 2 versions for trucks; 73-80 and 81-87.
-
can you get them Chris?
-
Only used and I dont have any.
-
I've got one from a GMC, the only difference is that the emblem is on the opposite side.
-
A buddy of mine is going to give me one off his GMC Jimmy that he is parting out if i can't find a Chevy one.
-
If your truck never had one originally you just have to drill 4 holes through the tailgate for the bolts.
-
They're expensive as all get out in my experience. The price has prompted me to just restore mine instead of just getting a new one.
-
How much are they worth in decent/good condition?
I bought an 81 - 87 style Chevrolet panel for $100, but do the 73 - 80 style go for more since they are harder to find?

New ones can be had for about $240 on some sites. But I personally have never seen one in the junkyard worth buying. All the junkyards near me would want to sell you the whole tailgate. I'd guess $100 or more.
