I want to make my old bench seat out of my '78 into a couch or something similar for out in the garage. All I need to do is construct a base for it, possibly arms on the ends.
Have you guys done this before, if so, what did you come up with. I'd like to do something different with it, not just a plain old box frame to sit on. any ideas about a neat way to do this?

That's genius, i bet you can find small go kart rims with Chevy emblems on them. 8)

I like that idea a lot!
I have a set of these in the garage, with GMC caps.
2 of them arent worth anything but scrap. but the other 2 look good. Than I'll just sell the tires.

If this turns out too good I may recover the seat itself...lol
Here's the seat

I've always thought if you mounted a bench seat to the back half of a bed that is cut off somewhere behind the wheel wells and mount that all to a wall. Light up the tail lights with low wattage 120 VAC, that would look neat... Obviously you would have to find the right damaged bed for this that the back half is still good.

Did some measuring and thought the bed sides could be moved in and the top rails adjusted to the perfect height for arm rests...

I like this idea. I have seen pics of this before and it looks good.

If done right it would look great. I really hope to break ground on a new shop in the spring. Even think it would be a neat work bench with sides if done right. I have a 6 foot steel work bench with drawers and doors for storage underneath that is 21" deep. I just wouldn't want to ruin a usable bed for that.

Give us a teaser shot. ;) Put the seat in the bed and snap a pic just to see how cool it would be.

I dunno, if I was going to include a truckbed, I'd just do this and skip the bench seat

Also I don't have any wall space to mount a big unit like that. I'm thinking just like a couch, can be moved around, but compliments the truck. I'm quite sure I'll be taking it with me to races and redneck parties, just because I can, and they dont have one. haha.
I'm really liking the wheels for a base, I have chrome 2500hd wheels for that, just gotta figure out now some type of armrests. but maybe not, if it has arm rests, I wouldnt be able to stretch out on it as I'm 6'2". lol.

I figured too, while I'm thinking about it, I'd tell you why I came up with this idea. For some various reason, the kids wanted to get the bench seat out of the basement and mess with it, well its been up in the garage in the way I been tripping over it for a month now.
Well, BOTH my parents cars were having major problems at the SAME time, and my dad works so many hours, he just cannot do it, so I had been spending 7 hours a day for about a week, working on both their cars, and having to loan them my car to boot. well, I was over there, trying to fix their cars and got so dang tired i couldn't see straight. well, I sat on the truck bench seat instead of the metal stool because it wasn't metal and was soft, about 1am and woke up in the morning laid down with my jacket and some packing blankets on the bench seat late for work at about 10am the next morning. dang that thing was comfy. other than freezing sleeping with the garage doors open all night i was pretty dang cozy, so i decided I'm not getting rid of the seat, but want to make something cool out of it. now i sit in the thing whenever I'm down there. I got my mom to lay on it too and she almost went to sleep. ;D

I think putting the 2500 wheels on it will make it less comfortable since you aren't going to be able to stretch out or get a good arm rest on it. You should try and put 4 small wheel/tire ( two in each side) set so they don't get in the way.

Maybe make put some Chevy emblems in the center of the wheels.

I've had that idea for years now. Glad I got to see it finally done. Thanks for posting that.
